The 11th International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence will be held at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California, September 6-10, 2000.

The location is of historic significance to students of luminescence because in 1954 it was the site of the first major conference on bioluminescence - Johnson, F. H., ed. (1955) The Luminescence of Biological Systems. AAAS, Washington.

We hope the spirits of 1954 participants Harvey and Haneda will have some residual uplifting effect on our efforts.

The meeting will be cosponsored by the University of California, Santa Barbara and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute with Jim Case (UCSB) and Bruce Robison (MBARI) heading the Organizing Committee.

Asilomar is a splendid seaside grove scattered with convenient on-site overnight lodging, excellent dining facilities, and first-rate meeting rooms. One evening, a private reception will be held nearby at the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. The meeting site is easily accessible by air and road transport.
