The ANTARES Project

    Jean-Philipe Laugier and Francois Blondeau

Keywords: astrophysics, bioluminescence, deep-sea

The ANTARES project aims at designing and operating an undersea neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean. Bioluminescence studies are performed in situ (below 2300 m depth) to determine its contribution as a background effect in our detector. This detector looks for faint light emitted by muons in the water via Cherenkov effect. Another luminescent background signal comes from the 40K decay.
